Eatin': Clean Up, Clean Up!

I sing the "Clean Up, Clean Up" song at least 10 times a day, easy. The other night, after singing it about a dozen times to Baby M, encouraging him to put his story books and blocks away, there was a break through: he actually took a book, stood on his little tippie toes and put it away. It felt like a major win! So what does this have to do with Eatin' you ask? Nothing. But it was a major win for me, as I was starting to wonder if the kid listens or I'm singing for my own entertainment....

BUT this Mama was thinking about cleaning up her morning act recently when it comes to food. Early post pregnancy I was really good about two morning rituals: drinking my warm lemon water + apple cider vinegar + honey mix, followed by a green smoothie. I have gotten away from the smoothie on a regular basis and after a weekend of not-so-healthy splurges, I figured it was a good time to start back!

And since it's all about multi-tasking around here, I made sure this smoothie was Baby M friendly so we both could have it as part of our breakfast.


The base for most of my morning smoothies: organic spinach, banana (usually frozen) & almond milk. Other fruits are added based on preference of the day, although dark cherries are a common star!

For this recipe I didn't include a protein, as Baby M & I were having eggs. However, when I do add a scoop, I prefer a non-soy, non-whey, unsweetened, unflavored, plant based powder, which can basically camouflage itself in the smoothie. Tasting vanilla or chocolate flavor every day just doesn't do it for me!

Here are two Trader Joe's products I wanted to point out that I've recently kept on hand at home: pea protein (more on this in another post!) & acai puree (Trader Joe's carries the best priced one around town, and it's sooo easy to add this powerful superfood to the mix!)





Clean Up Morning Smoothie:

Handful of Organic Spinach

1/2 ripe, preferably frozen banana

1 packet of acai puree (or 3-4 ounces)

1/4-1/2 cup almond milk (I like mine a little thicker so use less liquid)

Handful of frozen dark cherries (or berries of choice)

Blend until smooth. Enjoy!!
